In a recent occurrence, the database of an online grocery shopping platform named Big Basket users’ was leaked. In relation to that, an independent security researcher has revealed that Flipkart customers can be too made victims of online fraud with the stolen database. Cyber Criminals are selling the leaked information from Big Basket Database with the help of which transactions can be done from several accounts. Flipkart and Amazon customers have been reported to have an impact on it too.
The cybersecurity expert Rajasekhar Razharia has reported that cybercriminals are selling sets of email addresses and passwords linked to Big Basket’s leaked database. According to Rajasekhar, information related to Big Basket matches the accounts of other e-commerce sites like Flipkart and Amazon. However, when the browser changes, Amazon sends a one-time password (OTP) to users, so the Amazon profile is likely safer than Flipkart. This is why many experts have asked Flipkart users to change their passwords immediately.
Rajasekhar wrote on the microblogging platform Twitter that it seems that some people are selling Big Basket Email and Password combinations as Flipkart data. In usual terms, almost all the people are using the same password for all websites. Nearly all emails match Big Basket’s database, which makes it the need of the hour to change your Flipkart password as soon as possible. The cybersecurity expert also added that the account details of the users are being sold with the help of the Telegram app.
Rajasekhar has informed that Flipkart needs to make its accounts and the login process more secure. He further emphasized by writing that with a leaked email and password, anyone can easily log in to Flipkart from anywhere, with the help of VPN / TOR. Therefore, Flipkart should make the 2FA (Two Factor Authentication) mandatory for all accounts.
As a response, Flipkart spokesperson remarked that the company is cautious about protecting their customers’ data. However, he reassures that the security systems are doing their job efficiently and there is nothing to worry. In addition to taking care of their customer’s safety, they are also trying to spread awareness about such fraud cases by running campaigns on different media and social channels to show customers how to get a secure experience while online and protect themselves from cyber-attacks. However, despite this, Flipkart users are advised to change their account password as it will be easy for an attacker to access the account in case of an email and password leak.
