Hospitals Gowns are getting a makeover

The current hospital gowns are not aesthetically pleasing

The present hospital gowns which are a common sight in all the hospitals all over the world have been on the receiving side of criticism from patients and doctors alike. The reason for this criticism is the fact that most of these gowns are not at all aesthetically pleasing nor are they differentiated according to the patient’s needs. All the patients with different ailments have to wear the same gown and while it may be designed to be functional, the majority of the people think that they are unnecessarily exposed while wearing the hospital gown.

The current design of the hospital gowns are going under a makeover

Some companies and institutions have taken the first steps towards making the existing hospital gowns more pleasing while retaining its functionality. The new is aimed at making the gowns look like a robe with a front opening rather than the back opening as is the case with the present design of the gowns.

The biggest plus of this new design is that it covers the rear of the person without depriving them of the facility to use the bedpan facility. The innovation is aimed at making the hospital gowns more aesthetically pleasing and also to provide comfort to the patients without making them feel more exposed.

The paradigm shift regarding the hospital gowns

The innovation regarding hospital gowns has been stagnant up to this point due to the inertia in the thought process. The hospitals are specifically designed for the needs of the doctor and not for the patients and so is the hospital gown. A doctor or surgeon wants as lesser clothes as possible on the patient so that their jobs become easier so the present hospital gowns end up making the patients feeling more exposed than being comfortable.

So the new design aims at making the patients more comfortable with their apparel without making the doctors’ job harder. The market of hospital gowns is scaling up due to increase in the number of patients as per the market study by Value Market Research. However, the success of the new initiative depends on the hospital’s attitude towards the change as the staff would have to work harder for managing the inventory once the changes come into effect.

Apart from the design changes, some teams are working on developing a gown with an active health monitoring system present in the gowns that can actively track and monitor the vitals of the patient all day long and enhance the efficiency of the treatment.
