The event of painting using the paws of the pet by the owners themselves over the Mikawachi Ware was held at Mikawachi Ware Traditional Industry Center in Mikawachi Honmachi. In the city of Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture, many pet dogs and cats visited and experienced the painting event. The event was organised third time as an effort to contribute towards the community. The Japan Institute of Science and Technology (Sasebo City, Shinyokoe-cho), who manufactures as well as sells medical, beauty and veterinary equipment has been conducting this since 2018.
The owners were asked to apply ink to the pet’s (dog or cat) and press them against the mugs or round plates, and/or toothbrush pens. The pet’s name and date were also added to finish the design. Koji Hiwatar, eleven year old, a 5th year municipal student who came to the event with his family, stated , “I was happy to see the shape of the meat ball more clearly than I expected.” Junichiro Ura , thirty one, of the research institute said, “I would be glad if I could give back to the community by appealing to Mikawachi Yaki in collaboration with pets.”
