Perham Based Pet Food Maker, Tuffy’s To Build $60M Facility In Delano, Minnesota

Tuffy’s Pet Foods, a company that manufactures dry and moist dog and cat food and treats have started construction on a 173,500 square-foot state-of-the-art pet treat facility in Delano, Minnesota. The ongoing project is expected to create 150 jobs.

The new facility is likely to open on November 2020. The new processing facility will feature two extrusion lines producing 9,000 lbs. of semi-moist pet treats each hour and six packaging lines producing stand-up resealable pouches. The plant will employ 50 people in its initial phase and will create 150 more jobs when it reaches capacity. The new plant is designed and built to achieve Green Globe Certification for sustainability.

Charlie Nelson, President of Tuffy’s Pet Foods parent company KLN Family Brands said that Tuffy’s is committed to producing great products for four-legged family members. He added that they are equally committed to being a great corporate citizen and an important part of the Delano business community.

The new plant is designed with the ultramodern facility, which will provide the safest environment for pet food safety, efficiency and flexibility. Also, according to company officials, the new facility is designed to meet and exceed the stringent requirements of today’s pet food market with the use of sustainable operations that will reduce the plant’s environmental footprint and waste.

Tuffy’s pet food has been producing dry dog and cat food kibble for over 50 years in its Perham, Minnesota based facility. The company currently produces kibble under its own national brands Natural Planet, Pure Vita and NutriSource as well as numerous co-manufactured products. Moreover, according to the latest report by Value Market Research, Global Pet Food Market is likely to reach USD 92 billion by 2024 with the CAGR of 4% between 2018 and 2024.

Dale Graunke, Delano Mayor said about this new facility that Delano is open for business and their city excited to have such a highly respected family-owned company, which will add jobs and vitality to Delano. He also said that they want Tuffy’s to feel like home in Delano as they do in Perham.
